Buy things that actually fit for instant gratification, says Krissy Turner

-

How she shops: Being notoriously fickle, I tend to steer clear of spontaneous sales shopping, or that brown silk dress I thought was a “steal” will end up in the charity pile with tags on months later.

I’ve also been known to come back from a Boxing Day sales jaunt with a handful of trousers that I’d committed to lose an unnecessary 5lb for. Equally, my trusty dry cleaner will tell you about my habit of buying something I had to have that was two sizes too big and that he’s had to take in several inches. Although sometimes this can be a worthy investment (wedding dress shopping, perhaps) in the Topshop 50per cent off sale, you need to factor the price of alterations into your calculations.

Top tip: Buy things that actually fit – unless you’re OK with a hefty dry cleaning bill – or they’re no longer a bargain.

What she’ll be buying: Jeans are high on my “want/need” list, so I’ll make a beeline for those. This pair by Karen Millen are my ideal fit; a high waist, flattering dark blue shade and kick flare cropped at the perfect length to showcase a great pair of ankle boots. I’m keen to expand my trouser suit collection, too, and have been after one that I can wear to work and out in the evenings with a swift change of accessories. This burgundy Kitri one will do nicely. Kick flare jeans, £99 to £49 (karenmillen.com)

Blazer, £145 to £87, and trousers, £87 to £75 (kitristudio.com) from Dec 26
