Woman, 76, discharged and ‘left in rain’

-

 A grandmother with dementia was discharged from hospital on Christmas Day and left on her own doorstep by a taxi with no keys and dressed only in pyjamas and slippers.

Florence Myerscough, 76, was taken in by neighbours who found her “soaked” in the rain and unable to open her front door.

Karen Bye, her daughter, said she was “furious” at the way her vulnerable mother had been treated and astonished that the hospital had not informed them she was released.

“We were under the impression mum wasn’t coming home,” she said. “If she was, then we should have had a call to say she was.”

Mrs Myerscough was admitted to the Bolton Hospital with chronic back pain late in the afternoon on Christmas Day and discharged at around 10pm.

Heather Edwards, of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We instruct the taxi driver to ensure the patient is not left outside their home. We are not clear what happened but would ask Mrs Bye to get in touch to discuss it.”
