F1 to replace ‘grid girls’ with ‘grid kids’
Formula One has announced that “grid kids” will be used this season, replacing “grid girls”.
F1’s American owners, Liberty Media, controversially abolished the sport’s long-standing practice of using female models before Grands Prix, denouncing the practice as “at odds with modern-day societal norms”.
The “grid kids” scheme will come into effect at F1’s season-opening race in Melbourne next month. The local participants will be chosen from the junior categories of motor racing.
