Stalker flew 10,000 miles to ‘bump’ into his ex on the beach

- By Gareth Davies

A SPURNED Mayfair art gallery manager has been handed a restraining order after following his ex-girlfriend from the UK to Australia, where he “bumped” into her on the beach, a court heard.

Jan Navratil, 35, had a sixmonth relationship with Sophie Davis, a veterinary nurse. She had moved in with him but reported him to the police for taking her passport and broke up with him in December.

After the split, Ms Davis took a 10,000-mile trip to her native Australia, and while on a beach in Sydney on March 2 she spotted him walking towards her, pretending he had not seen her.

The couple had booked the Australia trip – travelling a week apart – when they were still in a relationship.

Ms Davis decided to proceed with her flight to Sydney, in the knowledge that Navratil’s flight was to Melbourne – more than 500 miles away. In Australia, she had started contacting another man on Facebook.

Navratil accessed her account and monitored her messages.

When they were both back in the UK, Czech-born Navratil, a shipping and bond manager at London’s Halcyon Gallery, appeared again – this time on the bus as Ms Davis travelled to work earlier this month. He tried to sit next to her.

She reported her ex-boyfriend to the police and he was arrested. He also bombarded Ms Davis, of Cheam in south London, with text messages, including photos of him wearing her clothes.

Navratil, of Colliers Wood, south-west London, admitted stalking between Feb 7 and April 3 at Wimbledon magistrates’ court yesterday.

He was banned from contacting Ms Davis and was given a community order.
