Competition fears over Sainsbury’s merger
Pressure is mounting on the competition watchdog to order an immediate inquiry into the merger between Sainsbury’s and Asda. Analysis by The Daily Telegraph showed that more than one in 10 of the stores owned by the two companies are close enough to prompt concerns. Sainsbury’s share price rose 15 per cent yesterday, but its chief executive, Mike Coupe, caused embarrassment by singing “we’re in the money” between media interviews.
