Fishmongers, not supermarkets, for the best catch

-

sir – James Carson says he goes to Sainsbury’s for his fresh fish (Letters, May 3). Why doesn’t he go to a real fishmonger?

There is a good one in Taunton, very close to him. There are also a few fishmongers who take online orders and will deliver prime, fresh fish to his door.

Supermarkets are not the best place to buy fish. Would Mr Carson go to one to get his hair cut, or buy a car? No; he would go to a specialist barber or car salesman. We independent fishmongers have to know each sea area that the fish we sell come from. Elizabeth Jones The Smelly Alley Fish Company Reading, Berkshire

sir – I buy my fish from John’s stall in Rawtenstall Market, and Paul’s delivery van, fresh from Fleetwood every Tuesday. Both know exactly where their fish was caught. William T Nuttall Rossendale, Lancashire
