Red star of David
Veterans of the Red Army march past the Knesset – Israel’s parliament – in Jerusalem yesterday. Around 500,000 Jews served with the Soviets during the Second World War and 200,000 died on the battlefields or were captured. Once a year on the eve of Victory Day on May 9, which is a national holiday, Israel’s war veterans don their medals to celebrate and commemorate the Allies’ victory over Nazi Germany 73 years ago. Some 1.5million Jews served across the Allied forces during the war.
