Italy’s populist parties agree coalition accord
Italy’s two anti-establishment parties agreed the basis for a governing accord yesterday that would slash taxes, ramp up welfare spending and pose the biggest challenge to the European Union since Brexit.
Leaders of the far-right League and the Five Star Movement have been discussing a common policy agenda for a coalition government. Luigi Di Maio, the Five-star leader, said he and Matteo Salvini, the League chief, had finished their review and would present it to President Sergio Mattarella by Monday.
