Royal wedding levy

-

SIR – In December, 2017 my husband purchased a voucher for afternoon tea for two at the Savoy Hotel in London. He paid £136.

Imagine our surprise when, on finishing said afternoon tea, we were presented with a bill for £18. This, we were informed, was a surcharge imposed for the whole of May because of the royal wedding.

We think this is outrageous and would be interested to know what others think. Marie Whitty

SIR – Here is my commemoration of the royal wedding: “Harry and Meghan”, a Petrarchan sonnet.

Who said that fairytales are fantasy When such a happy couple brings us all Joy in their famous union, to enthral The wider world to follow reverently? Witness the magic made reality, Strangers at first, then friends before

they fall

In love’s forever, brighter, deeper call To show enchantment’s vast posterity. Royal couple that colours black and

grey

With flowers and rainbows in our

thoughts that rise,

The feelgood factor brings the world in

one;

Harry and Meghan brought our souls

away

From depths of gloom to gladness in the

skies

Of love’s eternal orbit round the sun.
