Man, 81, dies after swallowing false teeth

 A pensioner who swallowed his false teeth and was sent home after doctors failed to spot them in an x-ray died days later of a stroke.

Thomas Watkins, 81, was eating a meal in Snodland, Kent, on Apr 21 when he swallowed his dentures. He was taken to Maidstone Hospital, but after an x-ray and tests, staff could not detect the teeth and he was sent home.

Six days later, at another hospital the dentures were spotted inside his body and doctors operated, but Mr Watkins died due to a stroke two days later. Coroner Roger Hatch recorded a verdict of misadventu­re.
