Paying for the NHS

-

SIR – Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, says voters want to pay more in tax to fund the NHS (report, May 25). Is this another case of Alice in Wonderland politics?

Many of us struggle to get our heads around the fact that the Government can fund foreign aid to the tune of almost £14billion pounds a year, but cannot find enough money for the NHS. Peter Feltham

SIR – I assume Mr Hunt has been asking the opinion of those who don’t pay tax.

As a taxpayer I would suggest that efficiencies can still be gained by cutting administrators and heeding Dr Nigel Knott’s call (Letters, May 25) for a new model of free hospital care. Dr Richard A E Grove

SIR – Allister Heath (Comment, May 24) says that a low-tax revolution has begun. However, the news is full of calls to raise taxes to fund the NHS.

It appears that we in Britain will have to wait for our transformation. Brian Watson
