Britain’s Afghan debt
SIR – You report (May 29) on the bravery of Mamoudou Gassama, the Malian migrant in Paris who saved a four-year-old boy from falling off a balcony.
Within a matter of hours, the young man met the French president Emmanuel Macron, was awarded French citizenship and offered training as a fireman.
Meanwhile, Britain baulks at allowing 300 Afghan interpreters – who probably saved many a British soldier from death or severe injury – to stay here.
The Government seems to have lost its moral compass on this issue.
