Miracle worker

SIR – In his article (June 11) on the cause for canonisation of GK Chesterton, Tony Diver says that “the Vatican will look for evidence that he has performed posthumous miracles by answering prayers”.

Saints do not perform miracles, nor do they answer prayers. Only God can do this. In Catholic theology, the role of the saint is simply to intercede with God on behalf of the supplicant who prays to him or her.
