Rebel Remainers

-

SIR – I am a Conservative and voted Remain in the hope that Britain would influence the future direction of the EU. But I will not vote Conservative again if Dominic Grieve, Ken Clarke and Anna Soubry vote against the Government’s amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill (report, June 16).

They are disloyal MPS who no longer care who governs Britain, be it Brussels or Jeremy Corbyn. In a democracy it is the voters who are sovereign and the ultimate bottom line. Over 17.4 million voted to leave; their motives in doing so were many and varied, and should not be secondguessed. It is disingenuous for Mr Grieve, Mr Clarke and Ms Soubry to claim they are acting and voting in the best interests of Theresa May, or the people of Britain.

I hope these MPS are deselected before the next election. If they had any integrity they would resign, join the Liberal Democrats or retire. They have no mandate to represent their constituencies as Conservatives on a manifesto which clearly stated that a Conservative government would leave the EU, including the single market and customs union.

SIR – How do the Brexit rebels think they became MPS? It was by being democratically elected. Yet they want us to remain in the EU, which is not democratic at all.

Now is the time for our negotiators to tell Michel Barnier that we have given in to enough of his requests, and until he comes up with some offers for us the money is off the table.
