England’s ‘shy’ Wags break self-imposed publicity ban
THE wives and girlfriends of England’s footballers pose for their own team photograph, before dining out at a restaurant in St Petersburg.
Dressed in their own kit – largely high heels, crop tops and short dresses – the partners of England’s young team looked forward to the evening having seen their men win their first two matches in Russia’s World Cup.
Among those enjoying the outing were Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Jamie Vardy; Megan Davison, girlfriend of Jordan Pickford; Annabel Peyton (Jack Butland); Fern Hawkins (Harry Maguire); and Annie Kilner (Kyle Walker).
The fiancée of Harry Kane, the captain and the tournament’s leading scorer, couldn’t make it. She remains at home in the UK, heavily pregnant expecting the couple’s second child.
The FA has retained the services of Farrer & Co, the Queen’s solicitors, to safeguard the privacy of the wives and girlfriends of England’s 2018 World Cup squad.
♦ Children watching the BBC’S Match of the Day are exposed to gambling advertising for up to 90 per cent of the time, government advisers said amid mounting calls for a ban. They said sponsors’ logos on shirts, advertising on the grass and marketing flashed up on hoardings were “normalising” gambling. “Ideally, children and young people should not be exposed to gambling at all, let alone in the quantities now prevalent,” said a spokesman.
