Trump wanted St Andrews hotel but was refused loan
♦ Donald Trump secretly tried to buy a landmark property at the home of golf, documents reveal.
The US president, who owns Trump Turnberry hotel and golf course in Ayrshire and Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, was refused a bank loan of £38million to buy Hamilton Hall, a Victorian building overlooking the 18th green at St Andrews, 10 years ago. Trump wanted to make it a hotel, but the Bank of Scotland felt the loan was “too risky”.
