The MEP Guy Verhofstadt fell foul of noise-pollution regulations while racing at Brands Hatch. The classic car devotee was driving a 1959 British-built Elva in the Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix event. Mr Verhofstadt, the European Parliament’s chief Brexit coordinator, was told that he had breached race noise rules, meaning his car, which he was racing for the first time in the UK, had to be modified ahead of the 11-lap contest. The politician limped home 30th out of a field of 33.
