Terrorist, 16, jailed after trying to travel to Syria

-

One of Britain’s youngest terrorists – who stole his father’s credit card and tried to travel to Syria while playing truant from school – was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday for six years.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested at Birmingham Airport as he tried to board a plane to Istanbul, Turkey, on June 12 last year.

Police found hidden in his sock 100,000 Turkish Lira (£16,500), with which he had told friends he planned to use to buy weapons once he arrived.

The boy, of Sutton Coldfield, admitted travelling with the intention of committing acts of terrorism.
