New formula milk ‘making babies sick’
‘It smelt different, like gone-off milk that had been left out for a day’
PARENTS have complained that a new Aptamil formula recipe is making their babies sick. Danone UK is investigating after hundreds complained on social media and has set up a free helpline.
The French food giant recently changed the recipe of three of its baby milk formulas.
Several mothers complained that their young babies had suffered upset stomachs after using the new version of Aptamil First Infant Milk powder (stage 1), which did not dissolve properly and left clumps of residue.
Rosie Menzies, from Lymington, Hants, said her 11-week-old son Harry had been sick soon after feeds.
She told the BBC: “It smelt different, like gone-off milk that had been left out for a day.”
Danone said many infants had “smoothly transitioned” on to the new milks, but admitted the new recipes were more sensitive to temperature and that new mixing instructions should have been made clearer.
“We apologise if any of our valued customers feel let down by our brand,” it added. The company stressed that its products were safe to consume and that it was investigating all complaints thoroughly.
