I attempted suicide, says former troll-turned-mp

A Labour MP says he attempted suicide three times in nine months during his suspension for alleged misogynistic and homophobic comments.

Jared O’mara was suspended in October over claims he verbally abused a woman before he was an MP. The Sheffield Hallam MP, who ousted Sir Nick Clegg at the last election was reinstated last week.

He told ITN he was an online “troll” who posted comments because he felt weak and insecure. He said: “I was harassed and hounded by the press. I was too scared to go home. I was a mess, I was crying.” He has apologised repeatedly for his past comments.
