Film-maker Stanley Nelson, a veteran chronicler of African American experience, has put together a fascinating film charting the history of black colleges and universities in America. Drawing from a compelling archive of photographs, Nelson begins his exploration in the post-civil War South, where slaves hungry for learning accessed controversial “contraband schools” to improve their literacy. Later, focus falls on the different stance taken by educational pioneers Booker T Washington, an advocate of vocational training for African Americans, and WEB Du Bois who pushed for greater access to the liberal arts. Sky Arts keeps up its excellent coverage of classic cinema with this new series, which turns the spotlight on those behind the camera. Alfred Hitchcock is up first, with a look at the suspensebuilding expert known for iconic films including Rear Window and Vertigo.
Discovering Film, at 8pm, profiles Janet Leigh, star of Hitchcock’s most famous film Psycho, which follows at 10pm. TD

In November 2016 former ITV breakfast host Dan Lobb was shocked when a secretly recorded video of him masturbating leaked online. This extraordinary film follows Lobb as he seeks to uncover the truth behind how the film, which was made without his knowledge, made its way onto the internet. TD
