Wimbledon (2004) COMEDY CENTRAL, 8.00PM ★★★

 Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst turn out to be the perfect team in this sporting romance. For ageing British tennis player Peter Colt (Bettany) the only love he’s getting is in his matches, until he meets American star player Lizzie Bradbury (Dunst). This is a romcom by numbers, but the tennis is realistic enough, and by the end of the film you’re rooting for Bettany to win on all fronts.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) ITV4, 9.00PM ★★★★★

 If opinion polls are anything to go by, Frank Darabont’s adaptation of a Stephen King novella is one of the greatest films of all time. Tim Robbins stars as Andy, a man “wrongfully” sent to prison in Shawshank State for his wife’s murder. There he befriends fellow inmate Red (Morgan Freeman) and settles into life behind bars, while plotting possibly the most memorable prison break ever.

Psycho (1960, b/w) SKY ARTS, 10.00PM ★★★★★

 No matter how many times you’ve seen it, knowing what’s going to happen next doesn’t make Hitchcock’s top-notch horror any less scary. The motel where young women meet their fate is just as forbidding, its proprietor, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), is just as creepy, and the shrieking violins during the shower scenes are just as much of a jolt. After years of imitations and remakes, the original still packs a punch.
