(2018)
NETFLIX, FROM TODAY
Arriving on the streaming platform today is this sci-fi horror about a father, Peter (Ant-man’s Michael Peña), who has a recurring nightmare about losing his family during a hostile alien invasion. The dreams turn out to premonitions, so Peter attempts to use his ability to see into the future – but only when asleep – to save the world. Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage) co-star as Peter’s wife and boss.
Love & Friendship (2016) BBC TWO, 9.00PM ★★★★★
Walt Stillman adapts an early Jane Austen curio, her long-unpublished epistolary novella Lady Susan. And it opens out the adulterous games of Austen’s surprisingly risqué text and elaborates on them with impish, breathlessly funny verve. Kate Beckinsale gives a deliciously controlled and self-aware performance as a charming young widow seeking a new husband. Chloë Sevigny, Xavier Samuel and Stephen Fry also star.
Disturbia (2007) BBC ONE, 11.35PM; NI/WALES, 12.05AM ★★★
Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window gets a modern reboot from director DJ Caruso. Gripped by grief after the death of his father, teenager Kale (Shia Labeouf) punches his teacher. Fitted with an electronic tag to keep him housebound, he takes to spying on his neighbours, foxy Ashley (Sarah Roemer) and the creepy Mr Turner (David Morse). There’s a delightful build up of suspense and a surprisingly funny script.
