The Entertainer (1960, b/w) BBC TWO, NOON ★★★

 To watch Laurence Olivier in Tony Richardson’s movie of John Osborne’s play is to watch someone who knows what it means to lose their grip on the world. Olivier plays the dementedly ebullient Archie Rice, a music-hall performer who tries to keep going when the tradition fades and his personal life falls apart. Alan Bates and Albert Finney make their screen debuts, while Joan Plowright plays Rice’s daughter.

The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017) SKY CINEMA PREMIERE, 6.10PM ★★

 In the multicultural megalopolis of Ninjago, whenever trouble rears its head, five teenagers transform into their secret ninja alter egos and repel it with a range of enormous, animalshaped machines. The ninja squad may be voiced by on-trend comedy names including Kumail Nanjiani and Fred Armisen, while Abbi Jacobson’s Nya is the solitary cool girl, but that doesn’t stop this falling behind other, superior Lego movies.

Escape Plan (2013) E4, 9.00PM★★

 If Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger can’t bust out of a high-security lock-up, you don’t really fancy anyone else’s chances. In Escape Plan, their situation is a hi-tech, steel-and-glass panopticon. Breslin (Stallone) is there on purpose: he’s an expert in prison weak spots, hired to test their pregnability. Meanwhile, Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) is a big cheese in what’s meant to be the safest prison on Earth.
