Castle visitors told to spot butterflies
Visitors to castles are being asked to look out for marbled white butterflies to help track the insect’s movement north.
Numbers have risen by 50 per cent in the past 40 years, Butterfly Conservation said.
The butterfly, which historically had its heartland in the South, has also expanded its range, particularly in the South East, the Midlands and Yorkshire, the wildlife charity said.
English Heritage cares for the majority of castles across England and has asked the lublic to spot and record butterflies they see at the sites as part of this year’s Big Butterfly Count.
