SIR – I agree with Debora Robertson (Features, August 16) about the decline of food in France.

There was a time when one highlight of a trip to France would be steak frites with salad. What has happened? The steak is now hard and dry, the frites are reconstitu­ted potato extrusions and the salad comes out of a bag. Quelle horreur.
