Refugee Reminiscence
RADIO 4, 8.00PM
In this moving celebration of humanity, three refugees each choose an item from their old life, before circumstances forced them to flee, and talk about bringing it with them to hold central importance in their new life. Among the stories is Maurice, who is a musician now, but was just nine years old when he arrived in the UK as a refugee from the Biafran War, having been – in his words – a “terrorist-inwaiting” after his home was bombed. Meanwhile Syrian former beekeeper Ryad laments losing his home and precious hives.
