Police hunt ‘abusive’ low-flying paraglider
POLICE have launched a hunt for a foul-mouthed paraglider who is accused of hurling abuse at beachgoers over two years.
Sussex Police and the Civil Aviation Authority are investigating a man who flies from Galley Hill in Bexhill-on-sea following a number of “aggressive” and “disturbing” incidents involving members of the public.
Over the past two years, the paraglider has caused criminal damage, obstructed the road, shown hostility towards pedestrians and behaved anti-socially on the East Sussex coast, police said.
Rother District Council said its staff knew of the man and had been involved in “numerous interactions with him over recent years”. Adding that the most recent complaint was lodged last month when a bystander “felt endangered” as the paraglider took off from Galley Hill.
One resident said: “He is evil. His language is foul and obscene. My wife will no longer go up there in case he is there.”
A Rother District Council spokesman said: “There is a bylaw restricting taking off and landing along the area of the seashore and we’re currently collecting evidence of any contraventions and we will liaise with the police to support their investigation.”
