Let’s hear it for the wonderful Welsh terrier

sir – Many mongrels are indeed a delight (Comment, August 23).

However, we should also spare a thought for threatened British breeds: for example the wonderful Welsh terrier, reputedly the oldest known breed in Britain.

These animals are brave, uncomplain­ing, independen­t, funny and intelligen­t. There is no yapping or moulting. Barking is used solely to draw your attention (and then stops), while the fur stays where it belongs – on the animal.
