Let’s hear it for the wonderful Welsh terrier

sir – Many mongrels are indeed a delight (Comment, August 23).

However, we should also spare a thought for threatened British breeds: for example the wonderful Welsh terrier, reputedly the oldest known breed in Britain.

These animals are brave, uncomplaining, independent, funny and intelligent. There is no yapping or moulting. Barking is used solely to draw your attention (and then stops), while the fur stays where it belongs – on the animal.
