BBC Proms 2018: Prom 64 – Verdi’s Requiem
RADIO 3, 7.30PM
A large orchestra, excellent singers, and the grand setting of the Royal Albert Hall always combine in the performance of a work of enormous ambition for the Proms. This season’s sequence of requiems continues tonight with the London Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Andrés Orozco-estrada, performing Verdi’s Requiem. For a religious work, the Requiem is markedly operatic and dramatic, which led to some distaste when it was first performed in Italy, though it remains stunning in the present day.
