Princess Mononoke (1997)

 The brilliant Studio Ghibli season continues on Film4 with Hayao Miyazaki’s wonderful animated epic, set in magical 14th-century Japan. It’s an ecological saga, with forest gods vs proto-industrialists stripping the world’s resources, but it manages to be more than a good vs bad fable. It’s challenging, superbly drawn and imaginatively dubbed by, among others, Minnie Driver, Gillian Anderson and Claire Danes.
