Overseas student visa demand by universities
University leaders are calling for a new visa that allows international students to work in the UK for up to two years after they graduate.
Universities UK wants to reinstate the visa, which was scrapped by the Government in 2012 to tackle immigration, to show that Brexit should not discourage applicants from overseas. Since 2011, the numbers of international students going to Australia, Canada and the US have increased significantly (45 per cent, 57 per cent and 40 per cent), while the UK has seen a rise of only 3 per cent.
However, the UK is the second most popular destination for international students, after the US.
