Prisoners to get video games as rewards

-

 Prisoners could more get access to games consoles, TV and time in the gym if they behave well, ministers have announced.

Under new plans, prison governors will get the freedom to decide what incentives inmates should have access to as a reward for good behaviour.

Prisoners can already bring a range of items into their cells including a bird and birdcage, but they will now win the right to more TV time and the right to wear their own clothes while behind bars if prison bosses allow it.

Rory Stewart, the prisons minister, said: “This new framework will give governors the tools to set clear behavioural standards for offenders under their watch, and the consequences should these not be met.”
