Stranded children abused RNLI crew

-

 A lifeboat crew was threatened and abused when it went to save a group of stranded children.

Volunteers at Morecambe RNLI lifeboat responded to reports of six youngsters in the bay, where waters can come in faster than an adult can run, and in 2004 claimed the lives of 21 Chinese cockle pickers.

On Sunday night, the crew turned up to find six people, aged between 11 and 15, drunk.

A spokesman for the RNLI said: “The volunteers arrived on scene to be greeted by abuse and threats of violence from the children – all of whom were clearly heavily intoxicated by alcohol.” It is understood Lancashire Police spoke to the children but no action was taken.
