Ryanair’s bags of room

-

SIR – My wife and I together average 40 flights a year with Ryanair. We like its low fares, modern aircraft and eagerness to be punctual. It offers a no-frills but reliable bus service. And it doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

If Ryanair is to maintain this ruthless efficiency, passengers need to follow its rules. Those who don’t want to do this should fly with a more accommodating and expensive airline. Too many passengers think they can get away with breaking Ryanair’s strict baggage allowance. This results in delays for everyone, including those who slavishly (and, yes, smugly) conform.

Since Ryanair’s announcement that it will charge for all but “small personal bags”, it has increased the maximum size from 35 x 20 x 20cm to 40 x 25 x 20cm. That’s a 42 per cent volume increase, so let’s celebrate, until the rules change yet again.
