Forces charity that sold Nazi T-shirts shut
A military charity which offered Nazi themed T-shirts to raise money for veterans has been ordered to close by the Charity Commission.
1st Knight Military Charity sold “offensive” merchandise mocking Muslims and depicting violence in its shop in Blackpool, the regulator said, and T-shirts with symbols relating to Nazi Germany, including swastikas, were advertised for sale on its website.
A BBC investigation in 2016 filmed trustees of the charity making “wholly offensive and inappropriate anti-islamic comments”.
The investigation prompted the Charity Commission to open a statutory inquiry into the charity. Michelle Russell, director of investigations, monitoring and enforcement, said: “Not only was this charity mismanaged, we also saw evidence of behaviours and attitudes that have no place in charity.”
