What not to wear on Strictly? Short skirts for a start, says Susannah
AS A presenter of What Not To Wear, Susannah Constantine advised women which bits of their bodies to show off and which to disguise.
Now she is applying those rules to her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing by insisting on sleeves and longer hemlines on dresses to make them “ap- propriate” for a woman of 56.
“I will dress for my age. I want to remain – if possible, at least in how I look – dignified. That dignity will disappear once I start dancing,” said Constantine, who is the oldest female contestant in this year’s line-up.
“I want to look appropriate for my age and be dressed for my body shape.
“I’m the oldest and the least experienced. I’m doing it for myself as I have always wanted to learn to dance, but also for all the other women of my age.”
Asked about the “Strictly curse” – the show is said to have been the cause of several relationship break-ups – Constantine laughed: “I’m far too old for my husband to worry about that.”
Strictly begins tonight on BBC One and Constantine said her What Not To Wear partner, Trinny Woodall, would be in the audience for some of the shows.
Kate Silverton, another contestant, joked that signing up for the show had given her marriage a boost by inspiring some healthy jealousy from Mike Heron, her husband.
“I married the love of my life, my soulmate, so we have no worries in that department. But never mind the Strictly curse, this is marriage magic,” the newsreader said. “I’m getting texts saying, ‘You look really hot this morning, babe’.”
