Westminster killer attended terrorists’ ‘Sunday school’

- By Izzy Lyons

THE Westminster terrorist Khalid Masood attended the same mosque where the Bluewater bombers set up a “Sunday school”, an inquest heard.

Masood, 52, was shot dead by police after fatally injuring four pedestrians on Westminster Bridge with a rented 4x4 before stabbing PC Keith Palmer, 48, to death in New Palace Yard.

An inquest into his victims’ deaths heard how he attended the Langley Green Mosque in Crawley, West Sussex, where terrorist Jawad Akbar had set up a “Sunday school”.

Akbar, along with Crawley residents Waheed Mahmood and Omar Khyam, were part of a gang arrested after fertiliser was found stored in a warehouse in Hanwell, west London, in 2004.

They were jailed in 2007 for a plot to bomb public places such as the Ministry of Sound nightclub in London and the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.

Masood had come on to security services’ radar around the time of the plot, while one of his associates was arrested after his mobile phone shop was raided in a terror probe, the inquest heard.

Masood’s wife and mother to his children, Rohey Hydara, gave an emotional apology to the victim’s families at the Old Bailey yesterday afternoon, saying: “I am sorry that I was not vigilant enough. He had made me trust him, so I had no reason to doubt him.

“I can’t believe I was married to someone that evil. I hope you find closure in all of this and that you can move on and not let him win.”

The chief coroner was also played a series of audio recordings that Masood’s wife secretly taped between 2012 and 2015 at their Birmingham home, in which Masood tells her: “I never hear you say there’s anything good in Isil. All you say is they are bad, they are wicked, they are evil. I really do not see eye to eye with you on this. You make me mad. I am furious.”

The inquest continues.
