‘Communism and drinking are linked’
Communism leads to heavier drinking, a study by the University of Kent claims.
The more time people spend under a communist regime, the more likely they are to hit the bottle, research discovered.
It found that there was a clear trend that the amount of time spent living in a stateless, “equal” society has led to more boozing since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Researchers looked at data from the European Health Interview Survey and analysed alcohol intake for citizens in noncommunist Cyprus, Greece and Malta compared with former communist regimes in Eastern Europe.
