Religious violence in Nigeria leaves 55 dead

-

Clashes between young Christians and Muslims at a market in northern Nigeria has claimed at least 55 lives.

Fighting broke out yesterday in the town of Kasuwan Magani following a dispute among rival wheelbarrow porters.

Police brought an end to the violence but a group of Adara Christians later attacked Hausa Muslim residents, burning homes.

Two people were said to have been killed in a row at the market on Thursday. Police have arrested 22 people after the unrest.
