Man, 102, stuck on roof for days after trying to fix aerial

A 102-YEAR-OLD man has been rescued by a milk woman after he was left trapped on his own roof for three days.

The centenarian, named locally as Ron Easton, is thought to have become trapped after trying to fix his television aerial at his Devon home.

The former racing driver was found on the flat roof of his home’s extension and had to be airlifted to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Trish Bagley, who delivers milk and papers to Mr Easton, said she became worried about him when she found two unopened bottles.

She told the BBC she arrived at his property in Bigbury-on-sea on Wednesday morning and there was no answer to the door or his phone. She added: “I thought he was asleep but I needed to get someone to have a look.”

A local shopkeeper then called a maintenance man who found Mr Easton on the roof of his house.

Ms Bagley said: “I had no idea he was there, I just knew something was wrong. He always takes his milk in every day so alarm bells rang – Monday and Tuesday’s milk was there so he was probably there from Sunday.

“The ladder was on the wrong side of the house so no one could see it. He must have slipped or something, we just don’t know. He’s a strong man. He’s always out in the garden. Hopefully he will make a full recovery.”

Mr Easton was rescued by Devon air ambulance and the Devon and Somerset fire brigade, and taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
