First state school uniform in France

Pupils at a school near Paris are back from half-term wearing uniform in a state school for the first time in France, where only private schools tend to have uniforms. It is an attempt to close an achievement gap between children from poor and wealthy families. Parents in Provins, south-east of Paris, voted for the uniform but it is not mandatory.
