‘Pink Panther gang’ suspect held in Croatia

A suspected member of the notorious “Pink Panther” gang of thieves was among five men arrested for the brazen theft of jewels from a Mughal exhibition in Venice earlier this year.

The men – four Croats and a Serb – were held in Croatia following an 11-month investigation by police in Italy and Zagreb.

In one of the most audacious heists Italy has witnessed in recent years, thieves stole a pendant brooch and a pair of earrings worth an estimated $3million (£23m) from the Doge’s Palace in St Mark’s Square in January.
