Thrifty Prince vaults up GQ’S best-dressed list
THE Prince of Wales has jumped up GQ magazine’s best dressed list in his 70th year after earning plaudits for his thrifty style.
He moved up from 20th place last year to sixth this year, behind the likes of Donald Glover, the rapper known as Childish Gambino, Richard Madden, the Bodyguard star, and the actor Timothee Chalamet. He appears above David Beckham and actor Matt
Smith, who dropped to 11 from No 1. The Prince’s signature style is smart British suits, favouring the Savile Row tailors Ede & Ravenscroft and Anderson & Sheppard, which keep scraps of material from every garment they make for him in order to mend his suits. At the GQ Men of the Year Awards, where he also received a lifetime achievement award, he insisted he did not deserve any fashion accolades. He said: “In fashion terms I’m like a stopped clock. I’m fashionable once every 25 years.”
