Iran pledges to continue ‘illegal’ missile tests
Iran said yesterday that it is to continue missile tests.
The announcement followed US allegations that Tehran had tested a missile capable of carrying multiple warheads. Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, said the testing of a medium-range ballistic missile violated the 2015 international agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme, from which Washington has withdrawn.
“Missile tests … are carried out for defence and the country’s deterrence. We will continue this,” a spokesman for the Iranian military said.
