‘Walter Mitty’ in five-star holiday fraud
A jobless man booked £44,000 worth of holidays after noting passwords used by travel agents.
Adam Griffiths, 28, described as a “Walter Mitty”, then accessed the agents’ systems to enjoy five-star holidays in the Seychelles and Dubai.
But Griffiths was still penniless and couldn’t afford extra drinks or meals at his destinations, Swansea Crown Court was told.
Griffiths, of Penlan, Swansea, admitted fraud and was jailed for two-anda-half years.
Carina Hughes, prosecuting, said staff at the travel agents thought he was a time-waster. But he was taking the time to note down their passwords.
His barrister Andrew Evans said he was “desperate to be admired”.
