Blame Gordon Brown
SIR – Tom Whitmore is mistaken to criticise Lord King of Lothbury (Letters, December 6) for the banking crisis during his tenure as Governor of the Bank of England.
Ten years before, Gordon Brown as Chancellor had removed oversight of the banking system from the Bank and given the role to the newly created Financial Services Authority. The FSA is famous for having concentrated on meddling with pension funds and paying little attention to the banks. Stephen Garner
