Why hasn’t Jodie made a killing?
Unless you are a stone-cold psychopath, you will know that Jodie Comer gave one of the year’s top TV performances in Killing Eve.
Yet the 25-yearold has been overlooked again, failing to get a Golden Globe nomination after not being shortlisted for an Emmy this year.
Comer’s co-star, Sandra Oh, has deservedly been nominated for best actress but they were, to my mind, a delicious double act and should both have been acknowledged. By the by, both the female stars of The Handmaid’s Tale and the male leads in A Very English Scandal have been nominated, albeit in different categories – so that’s not the problem.
What is going on? The series was a huge hit in the US, too. And as Villanelle – the enchanting, disturbing, viciously sarcastic assassin – Comer turned the stereotype of the “bad girl” on its head. Original doesn’t cover it. She was a Scouser playing a Russian killer playing a French woman – if that’s not impressive enough, what is?
