Dead Briton had her organs removed in Mexican hospital

-

A BRITISH woman had every organ in her body stolen, including her eyes and her brain, after she died in a Mexican hospital.

The family of Amanda Gill were told by pathologists in the UK that her body had been stripped of everything except her lower bowel, making it impossible to determine the cause of her death.

Her mother, Elaine Hines, 65, said: “She came home empty. They stole everything inside her.”

Miss Gill, 41, who was diabetic, had travelled with friends to Mexico City when she began vomiting and was taken to hospital.

Katie Miller-gill, 35, her sister, said: “At the end she was in a coma and wasn’t responding and then she just went. I don’t know why they didn’t take her blood sugar levels and put her on a drip, which is the first thing you do to a diabetic going into hospital. The pathologist said they could have saved her. It stinks to high heaven.”

The Mexican hospital was adamant that all Miss Gill’s organs were in her body before she was transferred to a police station for a post-mortem.

Ms Hines, from Shipley, West Yorkshire, said: “If this has happened to Amanda, how many other people has it happened to and will happen to again? We think they were stolen and sold.”

An inquest held in Bradford last month heard that the Foreign Office had told the family Miss Gill’s organs were to be returned and was shocked that they hadn’t been. Oliver Longstaff, the assistant deputy coroner, said: “It is a great regret this court cannot provide you with what you came to get.”
