SIR – Derek Walker (Letters, December 7) seems to suggest that Lord King, as governor of the Bank of England, was in no way responsibl­e for the financial crisis of 2008.

I seem to remember, however, that the disastrous takeover of ABN Amro by RBS also happened on his watch. Could it be that this piece of monumental incompeten­ce, too, was outside Lord King’s jurisdicti­on to prevent? The case of the pot calling the kettle black comes to mind. Tom Whitmore
